| Locations: This powerhouse of an Electric Pokémon that awaits your challenge in the northwest corner of the Powerplant. There is only one single Zapdos in the game and you better make sure that you catch it for your collection. Use a Ground or a Grass Pokémon to attack it and try to put it to sleep and lower its HP as quickly as possible. Then use Ultra Balls to catch it. Note that this can take quite awhile. Your best bet is to save right before the encounter and just reset your Game Boy if you happen to mess up. | |||||||||

| Tips: Zapdos is hands-down the best of the three legendary bird Pokemon -- even though the three birds' stats lie closely together. There are so many Pokemon out there that are weak to Electric attacks, Zapdos is simply an indispensable addition to any Pokemon team. However, that doesn't mean that Articuno and Moltres are any less important. While Zapdos doesn't quite reach Articuno's high Defense stats and HP, it's got something much better: high Speed, high Attack and high Special stats -- all coupled with decent resistence to Electric attacks (for a Flying Pokemon, that is). Zapdos knows Thundershock right off the bat, but you don't need to wait long until it learns the even more powerful Electric attack Thunder at level 51. You should of course also teach it the two-party Flying move Fly (HM 02), as well as the indispensable Thunder Wave (TM 45). It doesn't really matter what you pick as the fourth technique -- as long as you've got Thunder and Fly locked down. You might as well stick with the fairly strong Flying attack Drill Peck, which it knows right off the bat. It's great against Grass, Fighting and Bug Pokemon. In battle, Zapdos shows its worth against Grass, Fighting, Ground and Bug types -- both on the offense and defense. Its Ice attacks also kick butt against Dragon and fellow Flying Pokemon. Like all bird Pokemon, Articuno's biggest weakness is to Electric and Rock attacks. While it's a bit stronger to Ice attacks than other Flying types, it should still try to stay away from Ice opponents if possible. Since Articuno's high HP make it a tough foe to beat, be sure to use Sleep and status-altering attacks when you're up against a high-level specimen. | |||||||||
